CLUB STUFF   (very informal)

We have various members of the club who either have "stuff" they want to have sent to others or maybe want someone else to run/bike/swim a race with... this is where it will be posted.  Check it out regularily, I will update as much as I can - this will also keep those non work related emails from bombarding our email boxes for spam-like postings - that and everyone knows I don't give out personal data without permission.
ALSO - If you go to one of the tri's in the series or a group outing and took pictures - I would love to have them to post... THANKS!

Good times, good fun - Shamrock Shuffle 2008!

I received this yesterday morning from Sandy... (May 19, 2008)

Hi everyone, I'd just like to write in and tell everyone how much fun I've had training for this triathlon, and doing it! It's been a goal of mine for years now, and honestly I didn't ever think I'd be able to compete. It's been great training with everyone, and hope to continue seeing everyone as i continue to train. What I'd really like to do now is to give a word of thanks. Jim, thank you so much for putting in the time and effort to get this going. You've been there consistently through this whole time, and I know it couldn't have been easy to devote as much time as you did. Without your leadership and support, I know that I (as well as many others, I suspect) would not have continued. You really have inspired me to strive to better myself. Thanks again. Also, I don't think any of us really realize how much work you had to do to put on the rock hill triathlon (except for maybe Charlotte!). Getting the sponsors, securing the Aquatics Center, seeding everyone, getting the shirts and the caps, the chips and computer, the food... not to mention all the volunteers. And you pulled it off superbly. Again, many thanks to you!

Sandy Wade
Sandy and Rae Lynn have both signed up for the Ramblin' Rose Women's only sprint triathlon in Charlotte on October 9th.

From David G. ...  The 2008 USMC Ultimate Challenge Mudrun is set for Sat. Sept 20 located at the Leesburg Training site on the backside of FT Jackson near the Marine Corps Reserve Training Center. It consists of 4 person teams, men, women, or coed (any combination). It is a 4.2 mile run over trails thru the woods which includes about 30 obstacles such as mud holes, walls, trenches, rope swings, etc… I did it last year at a slow pace with 3 old out of shape guys and we had so much fun! At the finish line 3 team members carry a 4th team member on a stretcher for the last 50 yards. When you finish you are covered from head to toe in mud and you might as well plan on throwing away all articles of clothing and shoes when it is over. We used duct tape to wrap around our shoes and socks to try to keep them from coming off during the run! Some teams are very competitive and most are out there just to have a good time. There were over 2500 people who did it last year. My team did not start until after 12 noon and the first team started at 8am. You start as a team and finish as a team. Teams not competing for time usually help each other out and cheer each other on.
If you are interested please visit the website at www.usmcmudrun.net and then shoot me (David G.) and email if you want to consider putting a team together. I am willing to do it just for fun or competitive. If we have enough interest, we could more than one team. I felt like a little kid again! By the way, they do have a short course for kids!  Registration is $80 per team and includes 4 t-shirts.
