What is TRI-101?

TRI-101 is a program for beginner, novice, or intermediate athletes looking to achieve a triathlon fitness goal.

Whether you swim once a week, or haven't swam in years (or ever), this program creates the environment for like-minded athletes to train and learn together.

Like any new sport, there is a learning curve that is best followed with others, experiencing the same things as you.  There are sport specific skills to learn, common injuries that you need to prevent, and nutrition requirements to understand. TRI 101 helps you to navigate through the early experiences of a triathlete.

Ultimately, the TRI-101 program prepares you for our annual sprint-distance triathlon, Tri The Rock.

POWERADE TRI THE ROCK in 2010 will be entering its fifth year as part of the Upstate YMCA Triathlon Series hosted race events, and whether you did 1 (POWERADE Tri The Rock - naturally), 3 6 or all 7 Triathlons in the series (or maybe even a few out of the series too), it was a fantastic way keep your body aiming towards great health. 2010 will be even better! There is already a Triathlon scheduled in June at the Fort Mill Baxter YMCA and a kid's Triathlon in conjunction with the Tri the Rock in May 2010 and don't forget the Assault on Cherokee in August!
Questions on TRI-101

What does it cost?
The TRI-101 program costs $119 for Local YMCA members.  The program is open to non-YMCA members for $169.  The fee includes access to YMCA facilities during group workouts for the length of the program. (The $119/$169 does not include race or USAT fees.) The annual fee for The Rock Tri Club is $59.00, prerequisite is that you have completed the TRI-101 course in its entirety and are a member of the YMCA. It is also required that you have your own or have full use of a road bike (helmet too) by the beginning of March.

How long does the program last?
TRI-101 is a sprint-distance triathlon training program.  The initial kickoff meeting will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 7 pm at the Charlotte Avenue YMCA.  The TRI-101 program concludes with the May 8th, POWERADE Tri-The-Rock Sprint Triathlon. We are also offering a 201 for returning members or who are already experienced who are ready for the next step up.

What benefits do I get by participating?
Besides the obvious social and physical benefits of participating in a group training program, you have access to full club memberhip benefits while you are in the program, and yes, you get a dri fit logo shirt as well.

How do I sign up?
The Upper Palmetto YMCA handles all membership transactions for the Tri Club and TRI-101.  Please provide cash or check, payable to 'YMCA'.  The best is to come to the meeting on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Charlotte Avenue YMCA in the upstairs meeting room.  INFORMATION, REGISTRATION, QUESTIONNAIRE, SHEETS (RISK SHEET IS FORTHCOMING)

But I'm not a triathlete...
That's why TRI-101 exists.  Traditionally, triathletes begin their love of the sport by participating in a program like this.
It is during a program like this that previous nontriathletes realize how fun the multisport can be.
