Race Report - 2007 Greenwood YMCA Sprint - Kim
Day before- Ok-so I took it easy on Thursday in the pool and did nothing on both Friday and Saturday-by Saturday afternoon I was ready to run or something. I think the best thing I did all Saturday was hydrate. Sue and I rode down and she helped me out with my pre race day jitters. After dinner with the family and Sue's engagement shower we met Rick, Swain, and Stan to just relax and have a beer. Ok, I admit-I was too nervous to drink-I watched. (I did promise myself one after the race however.)
Race morning- I can't believe I actually slept. And I actually slept well. Manage to grab a granola bar and actually eat it finally. Getting race jitters
Transition set up- still trying to decided if the peep theory was going to work also hoping for rain to stop. I also got a call from Josiah in Korea wishing me luck-that was one of the best phone calls that I could have asked for (then again he was also calling us all morning too!).
Swim time- Why was the water so warm??? Despite that my swim wasn't really too bad-I tried to keep up but still had some guy swim on top of me-that happens. Before I jumped in the water however I turned my head to see my mom and grandma with an encouraging sign reading, "Go Kim Go!".
Bike- Not too shabby-I abandoned the peep theory since it was still wet, grabbed a long sleeved shirt and was off on my bike. I didn't expect for part of the course to be so hilly but I kept going. I felt really good.
Run- I pretty much scared a lady half to death when she passed me and heard my heart rate monitor going nuts-she asked me my heart rate..."206" I casually say. She seemed concerned. Water station- Learned a valuable lesson at this time-don't run and drink water at the same time-I started choking-that same lady who was infront of me turned around-I think she felt like she had to do the hemlick on me. The run was my biggest obstacle- it was so full of twists and turns I had no idea when I was going to be done. THen...I saw the finish line- I sprinted with whatever atp I had left in my body. It was so great to see my fellow tri club friends there cheering me on.
