ASSAULT ON CHEROKEE!
USAT Sanctioned
International/Olympic Triathlon
1300M swim/42K bike/10K run
 
 
 
 
Located in and along Kings Mountain State and National Military Parks is the multisport event - Camp Cherokee is the host site of the August 1, 2010, Assault on Cherokee International/Olympic USAT Sanctioned Triathlon. Less than a 30 minute drive from 485 just west of Charlotte, NC., the Assault on Cherokee is easily accessible to Charlotte, NC and the surrounding area, and less than a 45 minute drive from I-26 in Spartanburg via I-85. 
 
So if you are looking for southern North Carolina Triathlon, or an Upstate Georgia Triathlon, or you are coming from anywhere in South Carolina - this will be the multisport event for you to tri! 
 
Calm, boat free waters, mostly shaded roadways for the 26.6+ mile bike and the fully tree canopied run is fantastic for a warm summers day for a triathlon. Direct link to sign up is www.sportoften.com

Estimated to be 1300 meters and a single lap swim.
Shoes will be required for getting to T1.

26.6+ miles (42.8K), much through beautiful state and national parks, some on highways - great for speed - a few rolling hills, lots of shaded areas. Single lap course. ***Should the bridge be repaired on Possum Trot, the route will change slightly.

  • Jump on bike – go about 0.58 miles to

  • Leave Camp Cherokee – make a right out of entrance for about .69 miles to

  • Leave Camp Cherokee/York area, make a right out of entrance on to Park Road for about1.08 miles to

  • Leave Kings Mountain, make a right onto Highway 161 for about 3.22 miles to

  • At lighted intersection, make a right onto Highway 55 for about 7.56 miles to
  • Turn right on Hwy 5 for just over 1/10 of a mile to

  • Turn right on Indian Springs Road (turns into Possum Trot) go 1.35 miles to 

  • Turn right on Caldwell Road, go 1.35 miles to

  • Turn left on Garner Creek Roadfor 1.51 miles to

  • Veer right onto Looktout Tower Road for 1.39 miles to

  • Turn right onto Clayborn Road for .62 miles to (don't miss this turn)

  • Turn right onto Houser for .74 miles to

  • Turn right onto Rock House Road for 1.5 miles

  • Turn right onto Battleground Drive for .77 miles

  • Which turns into Park Road and follow for 3.83 miles

  • Turn right on Camp Cherokee Road, follow about .64 miles,

  • Veer left into Camp Cherokee area and go approx. .58 miles to Transition area…

Location / Directions

 

Camp Cherokee is located in Kings Mountain State Park in Blacksburg, South Carolina.

Nestled in the 7000-acre State and National Park, Camp has beautiful surrounding woods

and a 66-acre private lake. Travelers coming from Atlanta, GA (3 hour drive) or

Greenville, SC should take I-85 North to U.S. 161-Kings Mountain exit. Turn right

towards York. The State Park entrance is 5 miles on right. Follow signs to Camp

Cherokee. Coming from Charlotte, NC (less than a one hour drive) travelers should take I-85 South to U.S. 161-Kings Mountain exit. Turn left towards York. The State Park

entrance is located 5 miles on right. Follow signs to Camp Cherokee. Coming from

Rock Hill, SC (less than a 40 minute drive) take U.S. 161 to Kings Mountain State Park entrance on left). Follow signs to Camp Cherokee.
